This draw knife is a heavy duty tool for peeling logs or shaving wood. The blade is over a foot long, and is about 3/8" thick. Made of steel, the blade has a very long, gentle taper.
The draw knife arrived with the blade securely packaged in layers of cardboard, bubble wrap and tape. I appreciated this from a safety perspective. The tangs (I think you would call them tangs) are solidly glued into the hardwood handles, which fit my hands nicely.
I was a bit disappointed with the fact that the glue (hot glue) was a mess outside of the metal housings that marry the tangs to the handles. I mean, the tangs are very solidly glued in there, but the glue had seeped out and hardened. Similarly, there were spots on the knife blade – too dark, I think, to be rust, but they won't come off. The blade itself is sharp but had a couple very tiny flaws.
This is very much a rough and tumble tool. I think I will be able to polish the marks out of the blade and also that sharpening it will get rid of the nicks. I think it will be best used for debarking logs and rough shaping of wood pieces.

The blade on this draw knife is very thick and after measuring it, I have found it to be 7/16" thick. The ground edge of the blade is sharp but will most likely need to be honed to suit your needs and while the initial grinding of the blade is rather sharp, a honing will fine tune that blade and make it more useable. The handles are solid wood handles with a metal ferule to secure the blade in place but where this product lost a star in the review, was with the silicone (at least that's what it looks like) that is used to hold the blade in place in the handles. Also, the handle is all scratched up both on the wood and on the metal ferule. Not what you would expect for a new tool. In general, this is a nice tool and for the amount that it will get used, it will most likely last me a lifetime. The price is fairly reasonable as well.
