Due to the design you cannot mount a reel to this and the weight it is advertised is not correct – bought this to use while my Orvis rod was being repaired but now have to return this 🙁

The "Sougayilang Fly Fishing Rod" is a base/entry level rod. This review is for the 5/6 turquoise version. For comparison, think what you would find at a hardware store. At this price point, it is essentially a beginner rod, or one you might have as a spare just in case. I was admittedly somewhat surprised at the actual quality of this– for a rod at this price point you'd be hard pressed to find much better. The cork on the handle is decent, not overly soft, but also fits the hand well with a tiny bit of cushion. Of course, it isn't smooth, and will retain dirt over time. Some minor imperfections in the cork, some of which look like they may have been caused from the guides pushing into the cork during packaging/shipping. The guides are decent, and the wraps on the guides are OK. they look durable, but of course aren't finished quite to the same extent you would find in a brand name rod– some small gaps in the thread, but no outright overlaps that I can see. The reel seat seems to be decent (all metal), and grips my reel tightly with no issues. The double nut-ring approach used here should mean that it will stay fairly tight. No fighting butt on the 5/6, as one would expect, but it looks from pics like the 7/8 version does have the fighting butt.
The ferules have the painted and glossy finish right up to the tip, versus what you might find on pricier rods that forgo the paint and finish on the final couple of inches to make for a tighter fit here. I must say though, in the short time I was casting, I never had the sections slip apart on me, but a day on the water would likely prove different. This thing is a bit of brick. Heavy, weighing in at 4.4oz compared with my two Orvis rods that are right around 3oz each. And on top of that, it is a very tip flex style of rod. The 5/6 feels to me in terms of weight and stiffness more like a 6/7 style of rod. I'd say it is even heavier toward tip flex than my Orvis Access rod is. I'd suggest you not undersize a reel on it. As it is, with my Lamson Konic, the balance point is at the very top of the cork, a bit higher than I prefer. These are minor things that a novice might not notice, but by the end of the day, I can tell if I have been casting a heavy tip flex rod all day over a mid flex lighter dry fly rig. I'd say this is more ideal for streamer and heavy nymph fishing– getting a lighter dry presentation with this will be a challenge, unless you are a highly skilled caster. If you want to try out fly fishing but don't want to invest a bunch of money, this might be passable. However, expect if you really to get into it to be upgrading to a higher quality rod. In it's price point and for what it is, it deserves a 4*. Up against name brand rods (that start at 5X the cost and just go up from there) it is more like a 2-3* rod. For what it is though– give it its due. One final note, this does not come with a rod tube, only the roll up bag

This fly fishing rod is a fantastic choice for anglers looking for portability, quality, and great value. The ability to disassemble it into four pieces makes it incredibly convenient for travel or storage, taking up minimal space whether it’s in your car, backpack, or closet.
Made of carbon fiber, the rod is lightweight yet strong, providing excellent flexibility and durability on the water. It feels sturdy in hand and performs well in various fishing conditions, whether you’re targeting small streams or larger rivers. The balance and responsiveness make casting smooth and precise, enhancing the overall fishing experience.
The included carrying bag is a thoughtful addition, keeping the rod safe and organized when not in use. For the price, this setup delivers exceptional value, making it accessible to both beginners and experienced anglers.
If you’re in the market for a compact, reliable, and efficient fly fishing rod, this one ticks all the boxes. It’s a versatile and high-quality tool that’s sure to make your fishing trips even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Today I am reviewing Sougayilang Fly Fishing Rod. The rod I ordered was a 5/6 wt in the color of turquoise. The rod came in a thin vinyl sleeve. The sleeve is of low quality and adds little protection. The carbon blank seems to be adequate, coming in a 4-piece travel section, giving you a total of 9 ft when assembled. The cork area is of average quality. I did find that the reel seat was metal but had plastic reel slots. I would have liked to have seen stainless or aluminum. The reel locking nuts are metal in a double configuration. The sections connect decently and are snug without too much force to unconnect. As far as the guides, there is one ceramic guide and the rest snake guides, which is common. The rod has a fast action, which is not my favorite, but some like this. Overall, I can’t complain; as fly rods can be thousands of dollars. If you’re new to the sport and are unsure, this rod will serve you well to get started. The price seems reasonable for what you get and should last a couple of seasons if taken care of. I think it would be a good backup to have in the kit; if one rod breaks, this should get you through the day. The color is fun and tropical, although I would have liked it if it shipped with a tube to protect it better. I recommend this for the beginner Fly fisherman wanting to ease into the sport and does want to invest a large amount of money without being aggressively interested! Low cost, decent performance, fun times!

This fly rod comes in 4 pieces, which fit together nicely. The handle is cork which feels really hard against your hand. Does not come with a reel. Comes in a cheap thin canvas storage bag. I am not sure what it is about this rod, but it just does not seem like it's high performance. I'm disappointed because I have several other rods from Sougayilang and they have all been top quality.
I think in this particular instance, you get what you pay for.

This fly rod is a good balance of being cheap while also performing at a level good enough to develop your skills. The overall build quality is quite good. The carbon fiber material makes the rod nice and light while still providing strength. The overall balance of the rod is great with a nice cork handle that is comfortable to grip. This rod has a single ceramic guide closest to the reel and snake guides along the rest of the rod. It also comes with a bag to carry the rod around, but that is made of a thin and cheap material. I think this is a great fly fishing rod for someone that is interested in trying out fly fishing without investing too much money into it.
