About Gudetama

Gudetama is a cute yet moody lazy egg character created by Sanrio, the creator of Hello Kitty. His name is a Japanese wordplay on “gude gude” which describes someone lazy or lacking in energy, and “tamago” which means egg. Retsuko is a 25-year old and single anthropomorphic red panda, who works in the accounting department of a Japanese trading firm. Facing constant frustration every day from pushy superiors and annoying co-workers, Retsuko lets out her emotions by going to a karaoke bar every night and singing death metal. The “Sweet” version of the Aggretsuko Otamatone is modeled after her deceptively sweet, more subdued work persona, while the “Rage” version is modeled after her edgier “aggressive” after-hours metal singer persona.

What is an Otamatone?

How does it work?

The Otamatone creates electronic tones that you can control based on the position of your finger on the touch-sensitive fretboard. Use a switch on the back to choose an octave and slide your fingers up and down to play different notes. Open the Otamatone's mouth with a squeeze to change the sound from a hum to an “ahh” and create a “Wah Wah” effect.
