Getting a mastectomy sounded scary, but after weighing the risks I knew that my chances of cancer would be greatly diminished, so I agreed.
On the day of the surgery, my husband and sister drove me to the hospital. I was holding their hands as we walked in. I knew then, that no matter what, I would be okay.
As I woke up after the surgery, it felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. My husband looked over at me and smiled. He told me it went perfectly and how beautiful I looked.
