I bought this because I live in AB, Canada, and was going through a winter cold snap with a hat that doesn't fit correctly or feel particularly warm. I love this hat. It looks just like the pictures and is very warm. I wore it on the train ride to work in -40°C and was warm enough to sweat on the short walk between the train station and the office. It's also one of the only hats that I've ever found that fits on my gigantic head.
The major issue with fur is your personal opinion with using animal products. If you don't want to buy fur, I'm okay with that, but you should consider the fact that this style of hat won't be as warm if you go with faux fur. I don't like killing rabbits, but faux fur was designed to look like fur, not to be just as warm as fur. I'm personally of the opinion that dead animals don't look good. I don't like animal trophies and I don't like fur as a fashion statement. Animal products being used for their utility, on the other hand, is entirely valid to me, albeit regrettable.
The secondary issue with real fur is that it sheds. The fine hairs on the hat fall off everywhere. I haven't owned this hat for very long, but I don't find that it sheds very much compared to other real fur products I've had in the past. The few hairs that do fall off are a bit of a nuisance, as they're itchy, hard to see, and annoying, but it's not a serious problem for me. I don't think that the hat will go bald, so to speak, any time soon, but you should also consider that the hat will lose its fur over time. This hat might survive 10-20 years, but you won't be giving it to your grand kids when you retire.

Dont even think about not buying this hat because its pricey! If you live in a cold climate like i do..its a real game changer! For the first time, i stay warm while doing my snow shoveling, feeding the chickens, etc. I actually think if i went outside in freezing weather wearing nothing but my Trapper Hat..id still be warm!
