Being a professional carpenter for over 35 years I have to rate the estwing 22 oz short handle hammer as the best hammer available for heavy construction. It has the weight needed to down 3 1/2in spikes accurately because it is well balanced. The handle transfers power with great feel from your hand without vibration. Impressive that the design hasn’t changed in over thirty years. I would take it with me every time over my overpriced stiletto made of useless titanium (not ment for hammers). A pure joy to use very hard to find in your average store. Most people don’t know how good this hammer is without experience. It may take a few weeks to get used to it but well worth the effort.

Arrived perfect.
I've worked in construction for 21yrs now.
This is a tool I have in my hand all day basically. If its not in my hand , it's hanging on my tool belt.
Estwing is the best hammer for wht I do.
They make a variety now a days.
I usually go for lightweight hammers now a days also.
But this model is there best I think.
I've used one for 21yrs.
Maybe a bit to heavey considering it's a 22oz.
At 46 & a 22oz all day, it gets heavy.
I'm not a fan of there lightweight version's out on the market now. I've had a few.
But From the moment I first put my hand on one I never changed until I got older.
I started purchasing lightweight hammers as I got older. I own a lot ..
You name it, I most likely had it or I gave it to a buddy at work cause I didn't like it.
No my friends I kept the stiletto. Lol.
I purchased this actual model because it's the short handle version , it's hard to get in Canada, not at any of my local hardware stores.
So when I noticed it here on Amazon, I purchased it right away.
Good price as well.
I keep at least 2 hammers in the truck at all times. This actual hammer & another lightweight version of a different brand that I can beat on. Concrete isn't soft.
This hammer is the best for more technical work.
Because u can hit the nail with the side of the hammer as well , its smooth sided. It's convenient for when u have to reach down & put a nail in tight spaces.
It's one of the few hammers I've ever found that is made this way.
Most have a Grove or a cut out at the head of the hammer which makes for hitting a nail sideways difficult.
I tend to loose more nails with other hammers & have to grab another nail & retry over , sometimes a few times , which can drive u a lil nuts.
This model even though it's a 22oz hammer still. It's easier on my arm.
The full size handle I can feel it pulling when I swing , but the short handle version this model I'm talking about does not.
It's just normal no pulling feeling.
Better balanced I guess.
Tip for anyone just getting into trades or construction or even just buying an anti-vibe hammer in general.
A hammer is not suppose to make a ringing noise when u hit something.
If ur hammer makes a noise like a tuning fork for a piano , that means the anti-vibe doesn't work & your arm is feeling vibrations, even thou u won't sense it at the time your using it , u will later on, maybe a few days or a week , but sooner or later u will feel it.
Best test I've figured out is to take 2 hammers & hit the heads together.
If u hear a ring noise try again with another.
Now I'm not sure the hardware store likes when I do it to there products , but it does make better sense then me purchasing it & then noticing at work that it's making a noise.
I've also been asked only once in 21yrs wht I was doing hitting 2 hammers together at the store. Lol …
I just answered anti-vibe test. 😁
The guy said ok , good to know.
I was lucky with this hammer , online it's not possible to do the test.
But I did it soon as I toke it out of the box & it passed. Lucky me , no noise, solid. 👍
I'm happy with my purchase.
It's a 5⭐ Estwing hammer.
One of the best made hammers I've ever used.
Money definitely well spent considering I have 8yrs till retirement. Lol.
Will purchase again I'm sure. 👍

Beautiful and weighted to perfection 👌. Gets the job done, however a little overpriced for the features on this model.

After 35 years of been a joiner I've never been a estwing fan. I've snapped 2 but had a lot of shattering to do and needed a good ripper shattering hammer (if ya know you know). It's well balanced and after grinding the claw a bit sharper I most admitted its been great. 22oz is just that bit heavier perfect for shuttering. I think it was a bit pricey but compared to some others out there which aren't worth hundreds it's not bad

Bought this hammer 35 years ago and it was time to replace it due to the rubber hardening because of it's age. It is a 22oz. Perfect for framing. Estwing is top notch American made quality no matter what they make.

I prefer to use a straight claw hammer at a normal length
