How to grow and establish clover seed
- Seed roughly 1000 square feet with 1/2 pound of clover seeds & water regularly until established.
- Most seed spreaders will not work for clover so you may have to seed by hand.
- Clover should not require fertilizer in most cases, if fertilized avoid heavy nitrogen mixes.
- Rake the planted area lightly or compress seeds into the ground gently to improve germination.
- If seeding ground that is very dry & arid; improve germination by adding a thin layer of compost. If soil was recently tilled before seeding it is ideal to add a thin layer of compost to improve soil microbiome. Water regularly until established.
- Do not bury the seeds more than 1/2 inch deep in soil when seeding.
- If you can wait for the clover to drop seeds before mowing it will help the clover establish.
- Leaving lawn clippings on lawn after cutting will typically benefit clover growth.
- With clover well established you will be able to reduce mowing drastically.
